Transformational technology: challenges and opportunities for careers guidance30 July 2009

Event overview

Where could new technology take us? The last NICEC seminar before the summer break explored the potential of new technology to transform career guidance and career guidance services. The three presenters who will be leading the discussion have been part of a two-year, EU-funded project with partners in Italy, Spain and Romania to develop a new map of ICT-related guidance competences and to pilot an e-learning training course based on it.

Anthony Barnes, NICEC, explained the map of competences and gave examples of how new technology is already beginning to change career guidance practice.

Nelica La Gro, the Centre for Training in Careers Guidance at the University of East London, discussed the evaluation of the UK pilot and issues raised by it for the future training of career guidance practitioners.

Tony Watts, NICEC, explored some of the steps being taken to harness synergies between European projects of this kind and their links with public policy.

After each presentation there was an opportunity for those attending the seminar to ask questions and make comments.
