The Careers Research and Advisory Centre (CRAC) is looking for a dynamic and experienced professional to join our expanding Policy and Engagement team. The role includes developing and maintaining strategic relationships with senior leaders within the research and innovation system (R&I), identifying new opportunities for partnerships and funding, and managing a programme of collaborative policy initiatives.

CRAC is an independent and trusted provider of expertise on all aspects of careers in research. CRAC manages Vitae, a not-for-profit programme and sector leader in the professional and career development of researchers. We are currently developing our new strategy for 2025-30, and so you would be joining the organisation at an exciting time, as we seek to work more collaboratively with the R&I sector to drive system-wide change. Our new strategy is organised around three strategic priorities:

  • A robust and accessible evidence base on careers in research
  • Relevant, meaningful and sustainable professional and career development for everyone involved in research
  • Inclusive and supportive research environments

Our Policy and Engagement team has led a series of important high-profile initiatives and activities over the last few years. This includes the UKRI-commissioned Research Culture Initiatives in the UK project, the REF People, Culture and Environment (PCE) indicators project, and the development of a research culture framework. We are also actively involved in collaborative projects in Europe, including Sustainable Careers for research empowerment (SECURE), Open and Universal Science (OPUS), and the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA).

At CRAC we foster a supportive, people-focused organisational culture. As a small enterprise we work in a matrix style, with a strong emphasis on cross-team collaboration, to deliver on our charitable mission of providing research, expertise and innovation for all those who support careers in research.
